They also don't take swollen batteries by mail. Oh, and we don't have any Apple stores nearby that can do that repair, so you have to send it in to one of our third party certified repair stores. Oh, and we don't take swollen batteries in the mail at all (fire hazard), so you'll have to hand it in to a repair shop. That means we'll rip off the entire top of the computer and throw it away, that'll be €600 for a repair. What does that mean? Well, uh, we can replace the battery at cost.

I find the replacement program and contact Apple support who notice that while my model of Macbook Pro is indeed under warranty for this issue, my serial number falls outside the range of affected models. Well, lo and behold, I notice my battery has started to noticeably swell to the point where my laptop doesn't sit flat anymore. I have the 2015 Macbook Pro which has a replacement program for swelling batteries. Apple will replace the keyboard under the program a no cost. He said the issue was that their system records the "retail" purchase date as the date when B&H made their bulk order, not when I actually ordered it from B&H. UPDATE #2: I took my B&H dated invoice back to the Apple Store. So I'm heading back to the Apple store today.

exactly four years ago! It was one of B&H's deals on discontinued models. Turns out that I ordered it June 20, 2018. UPDATE: After I posted this, I looked up my order from B&H for this Macbook. Apple sold crap thin keyboards, they recognized they did this with their replacement program, but then put an arbitrary time limit on it. Also the first time I have had a repair issue not addressed. I have been an Apple customer since the Mac SE/30, and this is the first time I am really frustrated. They quoted me $670 for a replacement keyboard, and then offered a $300 trade in for a current model. The Apple "Genius" told me that the replacement program only applies for Macbooks within four years of purchase (even though they list eligible Macbooks from 2015). I booked myself into the apple store this weekend for a replacement per their website. Finally this week, I got the dreaded bbb, nnn, vvv, ccc repeat sequences. I knew the crap thin keyboard might fail at some point, but I also knew that Apple won't replace it until it fails (they test it at the store). Doing yeoman's work since i bought it in 2017.
